Cherry Blossom Hottie: The cherry blossom is the national flower of Japan, as well as being the
symbol of spring. The delicate blooms last for a very short time and for
the Japanese people, this represents the impermanence of life.
Kanji
Script: The cover paper of this journal contains Kozo fiber and is printed with small
sections of Kanji, a form of Japanese calligraphy. The pattern is described
as a collection of seals from the early nineteenth century.
Purple
Plum Blossom: The plum blossom is the national flower
of China and it represents purity, strength, and courage. Similarly in Japan,
it is a traditional
symbol of resilience and fortitude. In Japan, the plum blossom blooms before
all other flowers, often before the snow has melted.
Buddha: The cover paper of this journal is printed with images
of the Buddha. The word Buddha evolved from the word budh, which means "to wake up”.
The Buddha figures are shown meditating while seated in a classic lotus
position, with hands resting in the lap.
Green
Bars: The cover paper of this journal is created in Japan
and is called Katazome-shi. The name literally translates to “stencil-dyed papers”.
In Japan, the colors red and green both represent life, vitality, health, and
happiness.
